We State the Top 5 Games to Look Forward to Toward the End of 2013

So 2013 is already winding down toward the end of the year and the next generation of consoles is coming up so quickly. We preview our top 5 games to play this coming holiday. Note that these are games we believe are to be the most anticipated and will (probably) be atop the scoreboards for gamer reviews. We have not played these games and are judging purely based on their concepts, which developers and publishers were involved, trailers and generally what we believe the game may be like. These are not to be taken extremely seriously and are just a casual guess as to what games are in store for the end of 2013.

Let’s begin!

Top 5 Games for this Holiday – Battlefield 4

There’s no doubt in my mind that Battlefield 4 will be one of the top games this coming season, especially since Battlefield 3 was reportedly the best selling Battlefield game. DICE will be the developer once again so expect to have the same stuff from BF3, just upgraded to a much higher level. By upgraded, we mean bringing the destructibility back (which was toned down from BF3), the graphical output to be of higher quality (the game will also come to next-gen consoles), and more versatile maps such that they include water terrain as well as the usual land terrain all in one area.

Top 5 Games for this Holiday – Watch Dogs

This is my personal most anticipated game of the bunch, mainly because I am a huge fan of Grand Theft Auto and open-world style games in general. Watch Dogs is a game about a human being able to hack on the go. I like to think of it as GTA with super hacking skills and a more casual main character than the gangster-minded fellows at GTA.

Watch Dogs is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, who were responsible for developing successful titles like the Assasin’s Creed series, Far Cry series, Tom Clancy games, and Prince of Persia. The games’ release is yet to be announced for next-gen consoles but for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Watch Dogs will come out on November 19.

Top 5 Games for this Holiday – Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Another Ubisoft Montreal game. Another highly anticipated game coming out this year. Assassin’s Creed is known for its fun 3rd person, stealth-like approach to video games. It’s taking that to a whole different world with the pirate environments here.

Top 5 Games 2013Black Flag is all about the grandfather of Connor (the main character from Assassin’s Creed III), who was indeed a pirate. You can explore ships, the open ocean, and islands in an epic hunt for treasure. I’ve always loved the AC formula and stories and it would surely be interesting to see how a change of scenery goes for this legendary franchise.

Top 5 Games for this Holiday – South Park: The Stick of Truth

Geez, it seems that every game on this list is being published by Ubisoft. Though it may seem like we are biased toward Ubisoft, The Stick of Truth genuinely impresses us because of all the originality and similarities it has to the actual TV show, which we immaturely enjoy to this day.

Creative ideas such as a combination of a battery plus water creating violent attacks, using an anal probe satellite to teleport to different areas, and including the ability to “wield” regular household items into a powerful weapon.

Top 5 Games for this Holiday – Saints Row IV

Saints Row IV is reportedly the last game of the series so it’s clear why we are looking forward to it. Volition is so gifted in creating funny games that your main source of joy and laughter from the game is the pure silliness and immaturity of the gameplay.

Saints Row: The Third was a huge hit for gamers like me, who thoroughly enjoy light-hearted and careless games. This 4th iteration of the series starts off with you as the president of the United States. You walk around the White House seeing all kinds of utterly stupid and impossible ideas. In one instance, you see some of your employees and fellow politicians smoking weed. Perfect introduction this game, right?

The game releases August 20 for current-gen consoles. If SR4 releases on time, Saints Row 3 and 4 would have marked the beginning and end of the PS3 and Xbox 360 era, respectively though not strictly (ie. SR3 was not the first game to come out for the PS3 or Xbox while SR4 will not be the last game to come out for those consoles).
