If you have been searching high and low for a gaming mouse, but don’t want to drop $100 or more on something from Razer (and who could really blame you), you’re going to want to take a close look at the CM Storm Recon.

I purchased this gaming mouse a couple of months ago, and I do not think that I’ve had a better experience in terms of feel and control from a budget gaming mouse.

Just for starters, this mouse just seems to glide along without any hitches, headaches, or hiccups along the way. Instead, it’s incredibly responsive, so much so that I actually had to dial things down a little bit (inside the software controlled “command center”), if only because it was just too sensitive for my liking.

That definitely isn’t a bad thing, as it was simply a matter of personal preference.

On top of the super smoothness, this is also one of the more compact gaming mice you’ll find on the market today. I have average-sized hands, but it has been an ongoing concern for other gamers with smaller hands using some of the “supersized mice” out there on the market right now. You don’t have to worry about comfort, as the Recon is one of the better “one size fits all” type mice.

But rather than gloss over the details, let’s really get to the “meat and potatoes” of this CM Storm Recon gaming mouse review!

What I absolutely love about the CM Storm Recon: Pros

There are three specific things that I absolutely love about this particular gaming mouse that I want to touch on in this CM Storm Review, and they are:

  • A world class feature set with a decent, value price tag
  • Incredible gaming performance levels that are off the charts compared to similar competitors
  • And a perfect fit and finish that makes sense for just about any hand size or configuration

Gaming mice are all about “feel”, and you want to think of them as an extension of your body. This mouse in particular almost disappears when you are using it for just a couple of minutes, feeling as if it wasn’t there. You definitely do not want to be fiddling with your mouse during a game.

Instead, it’s going to become an extension of your hand, and every time you move your mouse, you’re going to be able to zip around the screen, lock onto a target, and let fly with your actions (especially those that you have mapped to the plethora of buttons on both sides of the mouse.

The CM Storm Recon + Skorpion makes your gaming setup look slicker.

Also, the CM Storm mouse is perfect as far as ergonomics are concerned, and is pretty much out of this world when it comes to ambidextrous control. I use my right hand to manipulate the mouse while gaming, but I’ve known z  few lefty’s that grew frustrated because their mouse didn’t have a left-handed feature.

CM Storm Recon Review: Cons

There weren’t really a lot of things that I did not like about this particular gaming mouse, but the one thing that I wasn’t exactly wild would have to be awkward placement of the DPI adjustment settings on the mouse.

I sometimes accidentally click it during gaming, but it has happened quite a few times with other gaming mice.

While it is a little bit “out-of-the-way” and can take a bit of messing around with to get the settings just right, but at the end of the day it’s not a deal breaker at all.

Final verdict

At the end of the day, if you’re looking for an absolute high-class gaming mouse that will not set you back hundreds of dollars – but performs just as well as those incredibly expensive options – you’ll want to take a good, long, hard look at the CM Storm Recon.
