After nearly four years, Nintendo is finally beefing up their Switch Online service by bringing two additional consoles to the existing line-up. Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games on Switch Online arrive October 25th as a premium service.
Nintendo has never really introduced much in terms of updates to Switch Online. Only recently did we get native Bluetooth connectivity without the use of a 3rd party dongle. The launch line-up for the NES and SNES, although starting strong, quickly lost steam over the years that followed, and since its launch, only released a few dozen titles for each system. Despite the NES and SNES massive back catalog.
Things are finally starting to change. During Nintendo’s latest Nintendo Direct they announced an optional “Expansion Pack” membership upgrade coming to Nintendo Switch, which will add two new virtual consoles to Switch Online.
The Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis consoles. Some games will even have newly added online play for up to 4 players. Star Fox 64 online, anyone? Yes, please. So what does this expansion look like and what will you get with Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games on Switch Online?

Nintendo Switch Online members will also have the opportunity to purchase full-size wireless Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis controllers similar to the NES and SNES controllers currently available from Nintendo.
The Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games on Switch Online expansion subscription tier will be $49.99 per year for an individual subscription or $79.99 for a family membership. It arrives on October 25th.
