Sega has announced that Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will officially launch on Wednesday, June 9th. You read that right—PSO2:NGS releases next Wednesday! It’s finally happening!
The August 2020 announcement was met with some confusion as gamers were unsure about the PSO2 concept. Is it a continuation of PSO2? A massive expansion with graphical upgrades? Or is it a sequel? Well, it’s kind of all of those things. Most importantly, New Genesis is indeed a sequel to Phantasy Star Online 2, but without the name and the shiny number 3 at the end.
New Genesis releases on the 10th anniversary of PSO2 and also marks 20 years of Phantasy Star Online. The sci-fi RPG that made the leap online with the Sega Dreamcast back in December of 2000, which resulted in many sleepless nights for friends and me back in high school.

Due to the PSO2:NGS launch, the scheduled maintenance that would have occurred on June 9 (Wed) will be moved forward by about one or two days. More information will be announced at a later date.
According to Sega, New Genesis will exist alongside PSO2 as a completely new game. The game system was completely overhauled and graphics, gameplay, and the world have all been improved. New Genesis features a brand new open-world concept, making it comparable to most current modern open-world MMORPGs.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will be free-to-play and is set to release for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in North America on June 9, 2021. Will you be playing?
