Router

We know, when it comes to playing your favorite titles online you love a seamless experience, without any interruptions or lag. But, in a lot of cases, this can be achieved only if you invest in one of the best gaming routers available right now.

What’s the difference between these and the regular models, the ones you usually get when you sign a new contract with an Internet provider?

In a nutshell, these devices can prioritize network traffic for your online games, thanks to a feature going by the name of Quality of Service. This makes sure your gaming session won’t be interrupted by anybody else connected to the same network, through downloading or streaming, for example.

Simple as that.

Still, choosing the best gaming router can be a pretty challenging job, considering the increasing number of available offers. But hey, this is what we’re here for!

Focusing exactly on what a hardcore gamer needs, we managed to put together a list with some of the best gaming routers on the market right now. And yes, some of them are not exactly cheap, but in the end, you get what you pay for. And you do want performance, right?

Right.

Let’s begin, shall we?

Netgear Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR500

Hey, we did mention “the best money can buy” and this is exactly what we’re starting with!

If you’re a professional gamer – or aspiring to become one – this is the router you need. Not only it will deliver a ridiculous 2.2Gbps speed, but thanks to the MU-MIMO support you can enjoy unique features, such as location-based connection filtering or QoS.

Basically, you can play for hours without a single lag spike. How cool is that?

Spec-wise, the Nighthawk comes with 4 x Gigabit Ethernet ports, a WAN and two USB 3.0 ports. There’s a minus as well: no broadband modem. But this is insignificant, considering the other things it can do, don’t you think?

D-link DIR-885L/R

Ok, we will be honest with you: one of the main reasons why we picked this router is because it looks uber cool. Like, seriously, it resembles a spaceship, while the red finish adds a plus of style. But this doesn’t mean that it doesn’t belong on our list of the best gaming routers!

The D-link DIR-885 is a great mid-range model, able to deliver a great range and speed. If you can get over the price, then it’s definitely a nice buy, considering that it boasts features like MU-MIMO support, Advanced Wireless AC beamforming, and Smart Connect. Oh, and let’s not forget that it supports 4 data streams, thus delivering an increased throughput.

Finally, there are four Gigabit Ethernet ports, as well as the classic USB 3.0 one.

More than enough for any gamer, if you ask us.

Asus RT-AC88U

Sometimes the most expensive is not necessarily the greatest. And this also applies to the best gaming routers!

Take the Asus RT-AC88U, for example, which comes with a friendlier price tag, compared to the previous entries on our list, but it’s the model that delivers the best possible wireless performance. Yes, it’s still expensive, but it justifies the cost with how good it works.

Out of the box, it comes with four antennae and the amazing NitroQAM tech. Specifically, the latter takes speeds to a whole new level, allowing the router to – get ready for this – even break the 1GB/sec limit.

Sounds cool, right? Unfortunately, in order to experience such performance, you need a NitroQAM wireless adapter, like Asus’ very own PCE AC88. Totally worth it, if you ask us.

Besides all these amazing features, the router comes with 9 (yes, nine!) Gigabit Ethernet ports, as well as two USB ones, a 2.0 and a 3.0 one.

TP-Link Archer C5400X

The best gaming routers don’t excel just in terms of speed, but also when it comes to coverage. And the TP-Link Archer C5400X is pretty much one of the finest examples out there.

Quite expensive, we know, but after looking at the performance we can totally understand the price tag. After all, we’re talking about one of the best gaming routers available right now!

Specifically, the values are as follows: 2.4GHz: 1000Mbps and 5GHz: 2.167Mbps. It also features eight Gigabit Ethernet ports, one Gigabit Ethernet WAN port, and two USB 3.0 slots. MU-MIMO and Tri-band networking support are present as well, meaning that the wireless connections are top-notch.

If you can get over the price tag, considering that it’s a TP-Link model, then this router is something worth giving a shot, no questions asked.

Asus RT-AC5300

For our last entry on our list of the best gaming routers, we have another scary-looking model from Asus, the RT-AC5300.

A fantastic high-end gaming router, it comes loaded with cool features, as well as a simple, yet very complex interface, where you can adjust it to your liking. And among the features, we can find MU-MIMO support, Link Aggregation, traffic analyzer, WPS and a pretty nice 512 MB of RAM.

As for the design…well, let’s just say that it’s not for everyone. But those antennae aren’t there just for the sake of having as many as possible, as they have one main mission: spreading your Wi-Fi signal through your entire place, meaning that this is a gaming router with an impressive range.

But it’s not perfect, according to some users, since it has just one USB 3.0 port. Along a 2.0 one, a WAN port and four Gigabit Ethernet ports. Is this a downside? Your call.

And this wraps it up, fellow gamers. These are just a few of the best gaming routers available on the market right now, perfect for making that ugly thing called lag forgotten.
