Monster Hunter May Digital Event

Capcom streamed the Monster Hunter May Digital Event on May 26 with some pretty exciting updates. We’re particularly excited about the 3.0 release for MHR! The new update added monsters, event quests, and a new game ending! With over 6 million copies sold worldwide, the massively popular game continues to add content monthly with no signs of slowing down. Let’s break down the event!

MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 2: WINGS OF RUIN

The Monster Hunter May Digital Event kicked off with a new trailer to their spinoff game Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. The trailer and the following information highlighted new-to-us gameplay elements to the upcoming RPG title, along with some characters and story details.

In MHS2, “rage-rays” appear to be causing monsters to become enraged throughout the world. You can hatch Monsties! You can find Monster Eggs in monster dens and other map locations and haul them back to your stables to hatch. Some eggs even carry unique genes that result in a special ability for your monstie. Furthermore, through the Rite of Channeling, you can awaken or transfer genes between your Monsties, allowing you to customize your Monstie’s skills, abilities, and even elemental alignment.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will release worldwide on July 9th, 2021, only on Nintendo Switch.

MONSTER HUNTER RISE 3.0 UPDATE

The free title update introduced the new monster, Crimson Glow Valstrax, an elder dragon that takes to the skies and comes crashing down like a comet. Its crimson wings fire orbs of energy, and this iteration has all new moves.

Valstrax has only ever made an appearance as the flagship monster in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate for the 3DS. This variant, however, has not been seen in a mainline Monster Hunter game. We’re pretty excited about the armor potential for this one.

Thunder Wolf Wyvern, Zinogre is getting an Apex form! The already difficult to hit and dodge monster is now covered in golden lightning and scales. Shiny! Equipped with new moves, Apex Zinogre can be found in both rampage and hub quests.

Finally, a new ending awaits as twins Hinoa and Minato tell us the Thunder Serpent Narwa and Wind Serpent Ibushi are meeting. Could we see a dual elder dragon fight involving both Narwa and Ibushi? We’ll know soon enough as the new title update will go live starting today at 5 PM PST!

Alongside these major announcements, 3.0 features additional unnamed new monsters. These monsters appear in Rampages, new quests, new boss battle arenas, new weapon trees, armor, layered armor, items, and more! There is also a new paid DLC that includes new hunter voices, layered armor, pose sets, stickers, and NEW Cohoot outfits! Turn my Cohoot into a dragon? Yes, please.

MONSTER HUNTER RISE ROADMAP

The Monster Hunter May Digital Event also shared some intriguing news about future plans. A series of monthly updates will begin in mid-June, starting with a collaboration event featuring layered armor from Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Multiple other collaboration events are planned at the end of June, July and August!

CROSSOVER CONTENT

As mentioned in the April event, Capcom announced crossover content between Stories 2 and Rise. Linking your save data will unlock the Rise Kamura armor set for Stories 2 and the Stories 2 Rider armor for Monster Hunter Rise.

And that’s the Monster Hunter May Digital Event. What are you most excited about with the Monster Hunter Rise 3.0 update? Will you be playing Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin? Tell us about it in the comments!
